So…what’s our motivation?
2 years ago, I went through a men’s weekend retreat at St. John Neumann Catholic
Church called CRHP (Christ Renews His Parish). That weekend helped me reflect
on a lot of things in my life, the most important of which was my purpose on this
earth. I had spent my entire life working on great personal success, and had spent
none of my time working on making the world a better place. It wasn’t because I
didn’t care, I think it was just that I was so consumed in my own life that I had not
taken the time to notice the pain and suffering around me. And if I had, well, I guess I
just thought that there wasn’t much I could really do about any of it.
On January 2nd of this year, I shot up in bed at 2am with an epiphany, a distinct
message: wake up and get started tonight! Movements are started with simple
actions – but they take ACTION. God laid a heavy message on my heart that night
about the horrible epidemic of child abuse. And it was time to take action.
Registering this website, and the subsequent discussion and planning of The
Superhero Run with my wife Jackie and my good friend Stephen Schultz became
that action.
We discussed in-depth the awfulness of child abuse, and our desire to fight the
battle against this evil. Our fight would culminate in the form of a fun run and musical
jam in wonderful downtown Austin Texas….fully dressed as SUPERHEROES. We
would use that platform to celebrate childhood, and raise awareness and funds to
help support the victims of child abuse. And our hope, our ultimate goal, would
become the start of a movement to rid the world of this awful sin.
